BERTUAHPOS.COM, PEKANBARU – The Muara Takus temple is one of the historic relics in Riau. This temple is a relic of the Buddhist kingdom of Srivijaya. Besides, it is also the oldest temples in Sumatra. But until now, there is no historical evidence that indicates when the temple was built.
The Muara Takus is one of the Buddhist sacred buildings in Riau. This temple located in the Muara Takus village, District XIII Koto Kampar, Riau, Indonesia. The site is located approximately 135 kilometers from Pekanbaru City.
The Site the Muara Takus temple surrounded by a wall which has a size of 74 x 74 meters, which is made of white stone with a ± 80 cm high walls. Meanwhile, in the outside area there is also an earthen wall measuring 1.5 x 1.5 kilometers, surrounds this complex to the edge of Kampar Kanan River. In the complex there are several buildings of the temple which is called Candi Sulung or (the oldest temple), Candi Bungsu or (the Youngest temple, Mahligai Stupa and Palangkaraya.
To preserve the temple, The Provincial Government of Riau has budgeted for Rp16,9 Billion for temple restoration of the Muara Takus in Kampar district this year. Earlier, in 2009, Temple the Muara Takus also been nominated as one of the UNESCO world heritage site. (vany)
